AS RIVERS PEOPLE GO TO VOTE

AS RIVERS PEOPLE GO TO  VOTE

BY

REV. SHEDRACK CHARLES

Why must the state be turned to a killing field  because of the INORDINATE AMBITIONS of some persons?

The Port Harcourt I grew up in was peaceful, serene, exciting, everyone looked out for everyone; of course it was called the garden city. But over the last 17 years we have seen the rise of a few political misfits who take pleasure in killing, assassinations, sponsoring of political brigandage and kidnappings.

I look forward to a time when right thinking and personable individuals will venture into politics in Nigeria, and not persons with suspicious pasts and virtually have no history of success in pre-political life.

As the Rivers people go to vote tomorrow in the re-run elections, I appeal for caution; let’s allow the people to vote for their choice of candidates; let’s not intimidate the voters, let’s keep the guns and carry our voters’ cards. Let the security officials show their neutrality and patriotism. Let the so called political gladiators which to my estimation are formed with the same ‘DNA’ stop heating up the polity and beating drums of war through their utterances and actions.

They should prove to the Rivers people and Nigerians at large that they are not children in adult bodies but responsible Nigerians.
