Live Update of the Rivers re-run election 2016

Welcome to the 2016 election re-run live update from Rivers state.


Distribution of materials started quite early in various RAC centres of the 23 LGA's of the state.

Our correspondents have also sent confirmed reports from various RAC centres in the state, stating that there is adequate security presence in various locations and electoral materials were being distributed to different units for voting to commence.

10:20 am. Materials have arrived in ward 1 and 2 of Opobo/Nkoro LGA but some PDP party agents are protesting that some of the result sheets are fake, voting has been stalled for the moment.




10:24 electoral materials have arrived in various units of ward 5 and 6 in emuoha LGA. Voting has commenced.


10:36 materials have also arrived in some units of phalga and Obio/akpor LGA respectively.


The APC governorship candidate in the Aprill 11 general election has been spotted in his unit in Opobo/Nkoro LGA casting his ballot.


Reports reaching us now has it that the Nigerian army earlier this morning intersected fake men of the forces on patrol around the rumuokwuta axis of Port Harcourt. The men have arrested and their vehicle destroyed.






fake military men that operated in the Bori axis of Ogoni has begun to unvail themselves. Finally, the fake military boys who were earlier reported riding on bikes around inec office in Bori has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Army whom has been on their trail. The boys are 3 in number.


Still in ogoni. The Nigerian army has paraded armed thugs on military uniform along Bori axis. according to reports coming from Bori, the SA to Gov. wike on special project, Cyrul Dum Wite was among those arrested. See pictures below.



The transport minister RT. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the Governor of Rivers state Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike have voted in their respective units.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike has expressed satisfaction with the security situation in the state as the people vote to elect their representatives in the state and national legislatures.

Wike voted at Unit 7, Ward 9 in Rumueprikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, at 11:57 a.m. after going through an accreditation process using the card reader.

He, however, complained of the preparedness of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the elections because of the late arrival of polling materials.

Meanwhile, in Bera community in Khana Local Government Area, some youths prevented INEC officials from distributing election materials on the allegation that the materials were fake.

In others developing stories coming from Rivers state shows that INEC have has suspended legislative elections in some LGA's in the state.

INEC’s decision, according to the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Aniedi Ikoikwak, follows reported cases of violenceand other hitches witnessed in some parts of the state including Andoni, Bonny, Gokana, Khana, Eleme and Tai local councils where the exercise has been suspended.

No date has been fixed for the rerun elections in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, voting has ended in the Rivers rerun election and counting has started in some polling units to determine the outcome of the election.
