RIVERS RE-RUN ELECTIONS PRELIMINARY REPORT


Dr. Anele Owhor in Port Harcourt reports that the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike voted after being accredited by 12:15pm at his unit in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor LGA. Scourge of supporters were full of smile as they accompanied their political leader.



It was also the same case at the unit of Dr. Mrs Ipalibo Banigo Harry, Deputy Governor of Rivers State, as she was accredited and voted. Troops of supporters also escorted her to the voting point.

In another development, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, joined the cue and voted at about 12 noon at his Unit in Ubima. Security personnels and crowd of fans followed the Minister to the polling booth, but waited patiently while their leader voted inside.

The candidate of APC in the 2015 Rivers State Gubernatorial and the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) equally participated in the much anticipated event. At about 12:45 pm, he was dully accredited at Unit 06, Ward 03, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State and voted accordingly.

In Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor LGA, the APC candidate for the Obio/Akpor Federal House House of Representatives seat, Tony Okocha was also seen voting in Ward 12, Unit 12. Similarly, his supporters flooded everywhere. Security agents were also seen performing their duties very well.

In Okirika LGA, the PDP Candidate for Rivers East Senatorial District, Senator George Sekibo equally voted after due accreditation. His supporters were also closely glued to his side. Security was fairly adequate as there was no recorded violence.

There is an atmosphere of calm after scanty security skirmishes in the morning hours. The Police appears to have contained the security situation with the help of the Army and other security agencies. INEC was not not able to keep the stipulated 2pm closing time, as accreditation and voting is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
