In the wake of renewed militancy in the Niger Delta, a new militant group,Ekpeye Liberation Group(ELG)a formation of ex-militants and freedom agitators has emerged in the oil rich southern part of the Niger Delta.

In a statement issued on behalf of the group in Port Harcourt by General Obodo Obodo(Commander, Special duties)declared a 14-days ultimatum starting from 16th June,2016 to Multi-National Companies operating in Ekpeyeland to vacate or face a total war on oil pipeline destruction and other oil installations in the area.

'We hereby give Nigeria Agip Oil Company(NAOC),Shell Petroleum Development Company(SPDC),Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas(NLNG),Total E&P and Niger Delta Petroleum Resources(NDPR) a fourteen days ultimatum to vacate Ekpeyeland,as anything other than that will mean that we shall bring total war to the doorstep of the Multi-Nationals in the area'.

The statement further noted that, 'in our final meeting,it was resolved that the' Operation Red Economy 'will commence after the 14-days ultimatum given to the oil companies, and it shall be coordinated by team 3 leader,General Akpatus aka Pipeline Strike Chief.

The ELG outrightly condemned the lukewarm attitude of the oil companies operating in the area in the face of the killings, kidnapping of our people in recent times, adding that the oil firms have failed to discharge their social corperate responsibility to their host communities, thereby leaving the people in abject poverty and hopelessness.

The group noted that the continuous oil exploration by the Multi-Nationals has brought  untold hardship on the people'our lands are no longer fertile, our waters are polluted, no good drinking water,no development,no MOU and the people that lay the golden egg are suffering.

The militant group claimed responsibility of the explosion in one of the Agip facilities in well 5 in Akara Olu community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, adding that the Federal Government should expect more at the end of the ultimatum.

The group has sent a very strong warning to the Minister of State for Petroleum,Mr Ibe Kachikwu that the Niger Delta struggle is not the Ijaws alone and any attempt to short change other Ethnic Nationalities in the Niger Delta will add more injury to the bleeding economy of Nigeria.
