Enyimba football club today defeated Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 3 goals to 1 in their CAF Champions League match. This victory is however inconsequential as Enyimba is already out of the Champions League after loosing their first 3 matches of the group stage.

The match which was played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt kicked off at 4pm with both teams trying to size each other up without creating any clear cut chances.

When it seemed the trend would continue, Uche John proved to think otherwise. With a powerful right foot effort from 25 yards, he gave Enyimba FC the lead in the 24th minute.

In the 33rd minute, Sundowns drew level after a goal mouth scramble with Percy Tau poking home for the equalizer.

Sundowns seemed not to be done yet as they almost took the lead after an effort by Bangaly Soumahoro hit the cross bar in the 40th minute.

It was Enymba who had the last laugh of the first half as competition's leading goal scorer Mfon Udoh ensured Eyimba headed for the break with their lead intact.

Shortly after the break, in the 49th minute, Stephen Chukwude was brought down inside the Sundowns penalty area and the referee rightly awarded a penalty. Mfon Udoh stepped up and slotted the ball behind the goal keeper to ensure his brace in the match. With this goal Udoh has now scored 9 goals in the competition this season.

Enyimba had an opportunity to make it 4 goals when the Sundowns goal keeper, Wayne Sandilands was caught off his line in the 69th minute but Peter Onyekachi failed to keep his composure and missed the chance.

The match therefore ended Enyimba 3-1 Mamelodi Sundowns.
