Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, Explains Delay in Ogoni Clean-up: “Talking about Ogoni spill, all resources have been made available and the money has been released. But if you do not have structure in place the money will go into the ground and people will not feel the impact. It is important for us to put together structure and make sure that we have a solid foundation. Who is in the office, who is the budget manager and how are they recruiting? All of these were not taken care of in the past. But this time, we believe that by the time we leave, people will see result. It will be a continuing process and in the next few months people will be seeing some of the issues that they had not seen.” The minister made this speech yesterday at the 10th anniversary of NOSDRA in Abuja. President Buhari does not do things for political effect, he does them for the benefit of the people, which is why he takes his time to do them right. Any day you see someone rush into a project, watch very carefully, you won't find him sustain it adequately. Take the so-called Sakpenwa-Kono road that Nyesom Wike rushed to commission for nearly a year now for political effect, what has happened there till today? Nothing, apart from the pouring of white sand and causing unnecessary traffic slowdown. The hundred metres road he rushed to flag off in Bodo some months ago, nothing has happened there now. How long does it take to finish a 100 metres road? Two weeks or less... Their members boasted to me that they would finish it in two weeks, that was when they thought the election would hold in June. But since then, how far? Ogoni people should be wise oh!
