Call On Amaechi To Help Recover 'Stolen Oil' Wells, Misplaced And Diversionary

A Press Statement From Obio-Akpor Media Team.

The Obio-Akpor Media Team has read with shock and consternation, a Press Statement issued by the Rivers State PDP, calling on the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, to help the Rivers State Government, recover the 'stolen oil' wells belonging to the State, which were ingloriously ceded to Bayelsa, Abia, and Akwa Ibom States, respectively, in the name of witch-hunting Amaechi, the then Governor of Rivers State.

It would be recalled that between the periods of 2012 and 2015, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, was locked in series of battles with the then PDP-controlled Federal Government, over oil wells belonging to Rivers State, wrongfully ceded to the aforementioned States, under the auspices of Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his then Minister of State for Education, now Governor Nyesom Wike. Former Governor Amaechi had cried out publicly, screaming that the oil wells belonging to the State were being unjustly taken away by the Federal government and given to neighbouring States, in a bid to reduce  the monthly federal allocation coming to the Rivers State and cripple the economy of the State.

It is therefore surprising that Mr. Felix Obuah and the PDP could forget in a hurry the skulduggeries and treachery they orchestrated against the people of Rivers State when they deliberately supported the the ignoble actions of the Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government, to wickedly strip Rivers State of her oil wells with brazen rascality, sickening impunity and gross contempt for democratic  ethos, simply because of political differences between Amaechi and the PDP gang. It is therefore pertinent to refresh their mind with the factual circumstances surrounding the oil wells in view.

It all began when the Federal government under former President Goodluck Jonathan transferred several oil wells situated in Soku, Kula, Elem-Sangana, Ohum-Sangana, Belema, Abise and Ibama Communities in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State to Bayelsa State. Rather than fold his arms and watch helplessly as resources belonging to Rivers People are wickedly taken away, Governor Amaechi fought tirelessly day and night, to ensure that the oil wells were returned back to the State.

It is worthy to note that while Amaechi was busy fighting the case in court, over N17billion realised from oil and gas in the affected communities was transferred from an escrow account to the account of the Bayelsa State government.

Within this period Governor Amaechi pulled on all resources at his disposal to ensure the 'stolen oil' wells were recovered to Rivers State, but the federal government was bent on ensuring that he (Amaechi) along with Rivers people were maliciously frustrated.

While Amaechi fought like a wounded lion; Wike, Felix Obuah and the PDP were busy applauding the federal government for taking away what belonged to the people of Rivers State, obviously on grounds of political differences with Amaechi.

It is on record that Wike, Bro. Felix Obuah and several other PDP Chieftains on various media platforms, publicly supported the actions of the federal government against Rivers State and avouched that the oil wells do not belong to Rivers State. In their desperation, Amaechi was called all manner of unprintable names and sufficiently abused for standing up against the injustice being meted out to our dear State and her people.

It is therefore fickly, and smacks of high hypocrisy for the PDP, to turn around now and call on Amaechi to help recover the same oil wells they acted as abettors to the Goodluck Jonathan government in ceding to politically friendly States. The public is hereby, advised to spitefully disregard Felix Obuah's gimmickry and unending proclivities towards dragging Amaechi's name to the mud.

We wish to remind Felix Obuah and his co-travellers that the Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi is no longer the Governor of Rivers State and as such, it is not his responsibility to fight for or attempt to retrieve the stolen oil wells. Amaechi is  now on a national assignment and is doing very well as the Honourable Minister of Transportation, hence should not be distracted  by the retrogressive tendencies of the PDP.

The PDP led Government in Rivers State must live to its responsibilities and recover the oil wells which they stole in broad daylight from Rivers People while in power at the centre. This is a litmus test for Governor Nyesom Wike and his PDP. The good people of  Rivers State are patiently waiting and watching as events unfold.
