Escape Of Murder Suspect And Wike's Resounding Silence

The Inter-ethnic Network for Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, INCRA, a leading media group in Rivers State, expresses worry over Governor Wike's veilless silence on the escape of a suspected ritualist and murderer from police custody about a fortnight ago.

The sad news of the aided escape of Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwu Maxwell Dike, little Victoria Chikamso Mazu's assailant, flooded the media and caused considerable disquiet, panic and tension in the streets of Port Harcourt and the State as a whole.

Mr. Ifeanyi was said to have kidnapped his underage victim, raped, murdered and dismembered her supposedly for rituals or other related purposes but escaped from police custody under very questionable and mysterious circumstances.

Following this monstrous and nefarious act, we condoled with little Victoria Mazu's family and called on the Rivers State Police command to think outside the box in its bid to recapture her assailant who is now at large. We also advised the security agencies to beam their searchlights on everyone including top government officials in the State. This call was necessitated by the growing level of desperation for political power and reckless hate speeches emanating from some persons in the political class in the State.

Surprisingly, almost two weeks down the line, the Governor of the State has maintained a high-pitched silence over the incidence. There is no record of any official statement by the Governor or on his behalf condemning this heinous crime against the citizens whom he is constitutionally obligated to protect.  Sadly, the Governor has continued with renewed vigour to channel attention and resources on trivialities  and unproductive politickings.

Whereas, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, the NIMASA Boss and a respected Statesman has offered a whopping sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) as incentive to anyone with useful information on the whereabouts of Mr. Ifeanyi, the Governor has rather elected to sweep the incidence under the carpet with his silence.

If the Governor was half as concerned over the recapture of the escapee as Dr. Peterside, he probably would have been apprehended again. Governor Wike would rather waste billions of Naira of Rivers people's money on trifling issues like sponsoring anti- Amaechi campaigns, lavishly hosting one professional body or the other, running around the media houses or willing churches to spitefully misinform the unwary public and campaign for 2019 elections rather than on any meaningful project or improving security.
Wike has a strong phobia for fighting crime apparently because he is a prime beneficiary of same.

This calls to question, Wike's competence and committment to the oath of allegiance to Rivers people and the protection of lives which he swore on May 29, 2015. Wike has repeatedly proven his unpreparedness to govern.

As patriotic and well-meaning citizens of the State, we advice the Governor for the umpteenth time to administer governance and shun senseless politickings at the expense of Rivers people.

Ubima, Rivers State.
